Exam Conditions

A. THE CONDITIONS OF THE GLOBAL FINAL ROUND

1. Exams will be held ONLINE.

2. Participation fee in the Hi-Lingua Language Competition is 25 € for each language exam in the Global Final Round. Participation in the Advanced Final Round Exams is free of charge for the ​qualifying students.

3. Participants can choose one or more languages among English, French, Spanish and German to take part in the competition.

4. Each language exam is independent of the others and contains 100 questions in total, with 25 multiple-choice questions at each level. 
    (Beginners- 25 Q. + Movers - 25 Q. + Flyers - 25 Q + Runners- 25 Q. = Total 100 Q.)

5. Each language exam lasts 90 minutes.

6. Zoom connection is required during the exam. The camera must be turned on and the student ID must be used as the display name.

7. The exams will be held via the Hi-Lingua Student ​Portal. ​There will be no additional exam links sent via email.

8. All participants will start the exam at the Beginners level regardless of grade, age or language level.

9. Global Final Round Exam Dates:
    ​15 April 2023 > ​German and Spanish Exams Date
    ​16 April 2023 > ​English and French Exams Date

10. Global Final Round exams will be open for 8 hours on the specified exam dates, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in each country's local time. Students can take exams from the languages of their choice at any time during this period.

11. Each question is 5 points. A student who answers all the questions correctly will receive 500 points (5 points x 100 questions = 500 points). Each incorrect answer will deduct 2 points from the participant’s final score.

12. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation in the Global Final Round Exams of the Hi-Lingua Language Competition.

13. The top 10 students in each age group and language category will qualify for the Advanced Final Round Exams based on the results of the Global Final Round Exams. The total of 30 students in each language category will be eligible to participate in the Advanced Final Round Exams.


B. THE CONDITIONS OF THE ADVANCED FINAL ROUND

1. Live Stream Digital Exams will be  conducted by video conference between the participants and the examiners.

2. Advanced Final Round Exam Process:

    20-21 May 2023 > ​Advanced Final Round Exam Dates

3. Advanced Final Round Exams will include writing an essay on a specific topic and an interview. The qualified participants will be sent an email with instructions regarding scheduling an appointment for an interview as well as criteria for an interview and writing an essay.

4. Two Zoom camera connections are required during the Live Stream Digital Exams in the ​Advanced Final Round. Both of the cameras must be turned on during the exam and Student ID must be used as the display name. Technical requirements in this regard will be announced prior to exams.

5. Students who miss the exam appointment for any reason will not be offered an alternative appointment.
The​ Advanced Final Round score is composed of 50% of the Global Final Round scores plus the Essay and Interview scores.  The maximum possible score in the Advanced Final Round is 500 points.
